These cute and easy 4th of July cookies are actually made with our favorite cake mix cookie recipe, so they’re even better!
If you haven’t tasted cake mix cookies before, you’ve got to try them! They’re SO fluffy – a perfect cross between cake and cookie. They’re also super easy to make (only 3 basic ingredients plus your mix-ins).
We decorated them with patriotic M&Ms to celebrate the 4th of July, but you could customize this recipe for any holiday or occasion. You could even add swirls of red and blue food coloring to make them extra patriotic!
This is an easy recipe that kids can help make – and they’ll sure like to taste-test them too!

Cake Mix 4th of July Cookies Ingredients
- 1 box of french vanilla cake mix or plain white cake mix
- 1/3 cup oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup patriotic M&M’s (red, white, and blue)

How to Make Red White & Blue Cake Mix Cookies

Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare a cookie sheet with parchment paper or a non-stick silicone baking mat.
TIP: We love these silicone baking mats in the kitchen because they are non-stick (no spray needed), plus washable and reusable!
In a large mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix, oil and eggs. Stir together until you have a smooth, thick batter.
Scoop dough balls onto your prepared cookie sheet – about the size of a ping-pong ball.
TIP: A small ice cream or cookie scoop makes it easy to achieve uniformly sized cookies. Plus it’s super fun for the kids!
Add 5-6 M&Ms to the top of each cookie, gently pressing the candy into the dough. (You don’t need to flatten the cookies).
Bake for 8-12 minutes at 350°F or until the tops of the cookies are a light golden brown.
Remove from oven and allow to cool.
To store, keep in an airtight container for up to a week.
