Easy Apple Dump Cake
If you’re in a hurry, it doesn’t get any better than a dump cake! While it sounds weird to have the word “dump” involved in a recipe, I promise it’s for a good reason!
A dump cake is a type of cake that gets its name from the way it’s prepared: you literally DUMP the ingredients into a baking pan and put it in the oven! No electric mixer needed!
This delicious apple dump cake is perfect for the coming fall weather. It’s similar to a cinnamon coffee cake, but we used apple pie filling as the liquid to add to our cake mix. The result is a cake that is impossibly fluffy, yet moist and flavorful, with apples baked right into it!
This is a go-to fall dessert recipe that both kids and grown-ups love!
Ingredients
- 1 box Angel Food Cake Mix
- 1 can Apple Pie Filling
- 3 Tablespoons sugar
- 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions
To Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F and mist a 9×13″ baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- Dump the cake mix and apple pie filling into your prepared pan and stir until completely combined.
- Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top of the cake.
- Bake for 30 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Prep Tips
- If you want your cinnamon sugar to be more cohesive you can always whisk them together in a small mixing bowl before adding to the top of the cake.
- This cake is light and fluffy and delicious on its own or served with coffee. However, you can also serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream too.
- For a truly decadent treat, try adding a drizzle of caramel syrup on top of the cake when serving.
How to Store
Store leftover cake at room temperature, in a covered airtight container. Leftovers should stay good for 3-4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze this cake. I recommend cutting into individual slices, wrapping them in plastic wrap, and putting them all into a gallon size freezer bag. Cake can last a couple months in the freezer.
