Oreo Polar Bear Cookies

One of our favorite things to make with the kids is chocolate-dipped cookies — we make them for every occasion!

New Cars movie? We made bright red Lightning McQueen Oreos!

Halloween party? How about our Spiderweb Cookies!

So of course we had to work on some festive holiday and winter treats too! These cute polar bear cookies would be perfect to make and serve with our Snowmen Oreos for a party spread.

There’s something about Oreos – they are one of our favorite store bought cookies. And by dipping them in chocolate you can transform them into just about anything!

Kids will have a blast dipping and decorating!

We recommend an adult handling the chocolate melting, for safety reasons – however, kids can totally participate in the rest of the process.

That’s why we love chocolate dipped cookie recipes so much! It’s something the whole family can do together!

How to Make Polar Bear Oreos

Using a double boiler, melt one bag of the white chocolate. Adults should do this step. (Note: You can also melt in a microwave safe bowl, but only heat for 20 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Handle bowl carefully as it may be hot).

Gently pull apart the Oreos, making sure that the creme stays on one half of the cookie.

Lightly press two yellow M&M’s into the cream, so that half of each M&M sticks out of the cookie. These will be the “ears,” so you want to place them at what will be the top of your Polar Bear cookies, about one finger width apart.

Place the other half of the oreo cookie back on top and slowly dip the top half into the melted chocolate.

Lightly shake the cookie to get excess chocolate off and place onto the cookie sheet.

Repeat steps with all remaining cookies.

Place cookies into the fridge for 10 minutes to harden before continuing.

Place the oreo cookie into the melted chocolate, using a fork, lightly flip the oreo cookie so that both sides get coated.

Lightly tap the side of the pot to get excess chocolate off

place oreo onto the cookie sheet and repeat step with remaining cookies

Place a non-melted white chocolate wafer onto the lower part of the cookie to make the nose. Then, put a dab of melted white chocolate onto the letter side of a blue M&M and press onto the white chocolate wafer.

Use melted white chocolate to attach two eyes to the cookie, above the nose.

Allow cookies to dry for 30 minutes before enjoying.

  1. If you found the white chocolate Oreos, what color m&m’s do you then use for the ears? …. Since you wouldn’t have to dip the cookie then, just not sure what color to use.
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Michele – I would still recommend dipping the cookies because they chocolate coating will help hold everything in place, like the ears. I would use a light M&M like yellow because it will cover easier.

  2. These are the cutest cookies I’ve ever seen! I made these with my kids. Our polar bears were not quite as perfect as yours but they were fun to make and absolutely delicious. Thanks for such a good idea.

    1. They are so much fun! PS- Only the cookies we make to photograph actually end up looking so “perfect”… But half the fun is letting the kids make them! Perfection is all relative 😉

  3. Hello! The idea of using a M&M for the ears is a great one! I would have never thought of doing that. Always looking for easy, time efficient, and creative ideas.

  4. Have you ever tried making these ahead and freezing them? I want to add them to Christmas packages, but won’t have time at the last minute to make them. I was also planning to make some of them into brown bears. They won’t look quite as dramatic as the white and blue, but I thought they would be cute. Thanks for the idea.

    1. Hi Mary Beth, I have not had experience freezing them but they can last in an airtight room temp container for 2 weeks so hopefully that works for your timeline.
Freezing can cause the candy coating to sweat and make the OREOs a bit soft, but they will still be gorgeous and delicious.
