Healthy Oatmeal Muffins
Steel cut oats are perfect for breakfast, but they’re not always practical to make in a pinch. That’s why we love to prep a pan of oatmeal and make a batch of these healthy oatmeal muffins — you can freeze them for later and heat them up in seconds on busy mornings!
What’s so healthy about these steel-cut oats muffins?
On top of being full of fiber from the oats, these muffins are also a great source of healthy fats thanks to the almond meal and flaxseed. Flaxseeds especially are full of omega three fatty acids which help promote brain development.
Due to the oats, these muffins are not overly fluffy but dense. This means that they make the perfect side to eggs, and taste delicious topped with your favorite jam. Plus, there’s no processed sugar! With no sugar high these muffins simply keep you full and give you lots of energy!

What does it mean to flip the muffin pan?
Hi BL,
Sorry for the confusion, we mean rotate the muffin pan in case your oven has hot spots.

What can I use as a substitute for banana? Perhaps more applesauce?
I apologize, it looks like we missed this comment from you and that’s why you mentioned not approving comments. I’m going to double check now to see what other comments we’ve missed.
Yes, you can use more applesauce or up to 1 cup of oil.

I want to soak the oats instead of cooking. Do have any suggestions about that?
Also why are the comments not posted? It’s helpful for everyone!
Hi Alaya,
We post comments but we have them go to approval first to avoid spam comments, malicious links, swear words, etc. Our goal for this site is to make it safe for children to view so we just take that extra pre-cautionary step.
Regarding soaking the steel-cut oats, as long as you soak them for 10 hours they will be fine to use in this recipe. If you’re using a different type of oats, they can be soaked for shorter periods of time.

Measure 2 cups of the oats then cook them, or 2 cups of cooked oats?
Hi Michelle, it’s 2 cups uncooked, sorry for the confusion.
