When our family first moved to Texas over a decade ago, one of the first things people told us was:

Fried pickles are everywhere in Texas, and turns out they are known as quite the southern delicacy.

Fried pickles are a fun party appetizer, treat for the kids, or anytime snack. We promise, you won’t be able to eat just one!

Fried Pickle Spears Ingredients

  • 8 pickles, quartered into slices (we used dill pickles)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup panko-style bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups cooking oil

How to Make Restaurant-Syle Easy Fried Pickles at Home

Line a baking sheet with foil and set aside.

Slice your pickles into quarters, stem to stem. Set aside.

Combine the milk and egg into a shallow dish. Set aside.

Combine the flour, bread crumbs, mustard powder, salt and pepper in a second shallow dish and adjust to taste.

How to make fried pickles at home

Dip each pickle into the milk and egg mixture and then into the flour mixture, turning to coat completely.

Place the breaded pickles on your baking tray and repeat with all pickles.

Freeze for at least 20 minutes (or overnight if you have time).

Heat your oil in a skillet, dutch oven or deep fryer until it reaches 375°F.

Remove the pickles from the freezer and carefully place 6 at a time in the oil, turning once to ensure both sides are completely golden brown.

Remove to a paper-lined plate to cool and repeat with all pickles.

Best enjoyed immediately.
