Shamrock Tortilla Chips
St. Patrick’s Day is on the way and that means it’s time for all the green food!
Usually, we make a lot of sweet treats for the occasion, but I especially love these Shamrock Chips because they are a savory recipe. Made with green tortillas, they look just like real clover leaves!
What makes this recipe especially great is that it is SO easy — only 4 ingredients and 15 minutes total time! Just like baking cookies, kids can totally help make this recipe…and they’ll love it!
In keeping with the “green” theme, we have also included a recipe for cheesy spinach dip. However, feel free to use your favorite chip dip…or a few different kinds!
Just imagine how fun and festive the party table will look with these cute chips front and center! (And I must say, they are pretty tasty too!) So they taste as good as they look!

How to Make Shamrock Shaped Tortilla Chips
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Lay out your tortillas on a cutting board or clean countertop. Use your shamrock shaped cookie cutter to cut out the chips from the tortilla.
TIP: I linked to a shamrock cookie cutter on Amazon in our ingredients/supply list above. However, in a pinch, you can use a heart-shaped cookie cutter. The photo below illustrates how to do so, by using the heart cookie cutter in 4 positions to make one 4-leaf clover cutout. Do not press all the way with the pointy edge of the hearts, so that the middle stays together.
Place the tortilla pieces on a baking sheet (coated with non-stick spray) and brush with olive oil or melted butter. Bake for 5-8 minutes, until the chips crisp up and start to just turn a little golden brown on the edges.
Remove from the oven, spritz with lime juice and sprinkle with salt.
To Make the Spinach Dip
- Place 1 Tablespoon olive oil in a frying pan or skillet over medium heat. Add the spinach and cook until wilted, about 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer the spinach to a small container and place in the fridge for 10 minutes.
- Once spinach has cooled, combine the remaining oil, cooled spinach, cream cheese, yogurt, garlic, basil and salt and pepper. Taste and adjust to your personal preferences.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Do You Store Homemade Tortilla Chips?
Make sure that your tortilla chips are completely cool before putting them in any sort of container.
Once cooled, place the chips in a zip-top bag or an airtight container. Keep at room temperature, away from heat or light sources.
Because they are homemade, these chips may not last quite as long as store-bought chips. However, they should stay good for 7-10 days when properly stored.
How Many Chips Does this Recipe Make?
The final yield will actually depend on the size of your tortillas and the size of your tortilla chips. We used burrito-sized tortillas and made chips that were about 3″ each.
