Campfire Sugar Cookies
A fun Campfire Cookie recipe perfect for Girl Scout meetings, summer parties or rained out camping trips, especially for those who aren’t a fan of s’mores! These Easy Campfire Sugar Cookies are a fun party snack that can be made using pre-made sugar cookies, for a no-baking required campfire treat!
Bonfire Sugar Cookies Recipe
A fun recipe to make with the kids if decide to have a living room campout or get rained out of a proper camping trip, these Campfire Sugar Cookies are easy enough for even the littlest camper to make while being cute enough to serve at a party!
You can make the sugar cookies from scratch, or do as we did and opt for pre-made sugar cookies for an “assemble and decorate” food craft perfect for sleepovers or a low-key kitchen activity.
They are basically mini edible campsites… minus the bug spray, tent set up and uncomfortable night sleeping on the ground.
It’s a great “recipe” to have in your back pocket if you have a camping trip or backyard camping night planned and there’s a possibility of rain – or, pin for a fun classroom or Girl Scout’s treat! Honestly, I don’t think there’s an occasion kids won’t enjoy getting to make their own mini edible campfires, especially since this recipe includes sweet sugar cookies with frosting (canned or homemade), chewy gummy bears, salty pretzel sticks and cute mini marshmallows.
These Campfire Sugar Cookies are a bit sentimental for us, as they were inspired by a family vacation at Great Wolf Lodge where the kids got to make their own campfire sugar cookies as one of the craft activities – I think ours turned out pretty close to the original!

How to Make Campire Sugar Cookies
To Prep: Prepare the cookies – make from scratch or assemble pre-made on a serving tray.
- Add green food coloring to the frosting.
- Coat each cookie in green frosting.
- Make a camp fire ring using the tootsie rolls.
- Place gummy bears in the center of the tootsie rolls to create a fire.
- Place a marshmallow onto each pretzel stick.
- Create a fire using the pretzels.
Prep Tips
- If you’re using homemade cookies, let them cool completely and even pop them in the fridge for 10–15 minutes before frosting. A firmer surface keeps the frosting from sliding around like a canoe with no paddle and makes it much easier for kids to build their “campfire” without everything shifting.
- Swap the Tootsie Rolls for chocolate-covered caramels, mini chocolate bars (cut in pieces) or chocolate-covered pretzels.
- Swap out the gummy bears for torn fruit snacks/Fruit Roll-Ups, flame-colored frosting or candy corn.
- Make it a build-your-own cookie bar: For parties or group settings, set everything out buffet-style and let kids assemble their own. It keeps things interactive and cuts down on prep time. A dessert version of an arts-and-crafts table.
