Orange Loaf

This moist and delicious orange loaf is an easy dessert bread with the texture of pound cake and lots of real orange flavor. We used fresh squeezed orange juice and orange zest in both the cake batter and the icing, so there is tangy orange in every bite.

This bread is perfect for any occasion, from summer potlucks to holiday dinner. It’s a fun recipe to make with the kids because it is fairly easy. All you have to do is mix, pour, and bake!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 TB unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 3 TB orange zest
  • 1/2 cup oil

Orange Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1 cup powder sugar 
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup orange zest

Instructions

To Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a standard loaf pan.

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and powder and salt.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the eggs, sugar, butter, orange juice and orange zest. Mix until combined.
  3. Slowly add in the flour mixture, beating until just incorporated.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.

Orange Glaze Directions:

  1. Combine all glaze ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk together until smooth.
  2. Gently shake the cake to loosen from pan and transfer to a serving platter.
  3. Pour glaze over cooled cake slowly.
  4. Sprinkle with orange zest and allow to set before slicing and serving.

Prep Tips

  • Baking Time – Oven temperatures may vary, so you cake may take a little more or less time than our recipe. You’ll know it’s done when a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  • Icing – When making the glaze, you want it to be thick, but pourable in consistency. If it is too thick, mix in more juice. If it is too runny, add more powdered sugar.
  • Storage – This cake does not require refrigeration. Keep covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days.
