Glazed Unicorn Donuts
Easy canned biscuit donuts topped with swirled frosting and sprinkles – these Unicorn Donuts are as fun to make as they are to eat!
Unicorn Donuts
My kids love anything that is unicorn themed – from clothes to sweet treats! “Unicorn style” is meant to evoke the mythical creature’s vibrant mane and tail – with a rainbow of pastel colors and sparkly details.
That’s exactly what we had in mind with these colorful Unicorn Donuts! They’re topped with a pastel swirled glaze and lots of sprinkles for a truly fabulous treat!
But the best part is how easy they are to make! You don’t have to worry about mixing up dough because we used canned biscuits! All you have to do is fry them for 2 minutes each and then have so much fun decorating!
Ingredients
- 1 can Pre-made Biscuits
- 1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 2 Tablespoons Milk
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- Pink and Purple Food Coloring
- 1/4 cup Unicorn Sprinkles
Kitchen Tools You May Find Helpful
- Dutch Oven or Large Pot for Frying
- Wire Rack
- Baking Sheet
Instructions
To Prep:
- Place a cooling rack on top of a large baking sheet and set aside.
- Add your frying oil in a dutch oven over medium heat. Use a candy thermometer to ensure you bring the oil to 350F.
To Fry The Donuts
Cut out the center of each biscuit and then stretch the biscuit a bit to make the hole and biscuit itself a little bit wider.
Once oil is hot, fry each donut individually for about 1 minute per side, until golden brown.
Set each fried donut on the cooling rack to allow excess oil to drip off.
Once all donuts have been fried, turn off the heat for the oil.
To Frost The Donuts
Sift the powdered sugar into a large bowl.
Whisk in the milk and vanilla extract.
Add one drop of each pink and purple dye to separate areas of the vanilla glaze, then use a knife to swirl the colors together lightly, achieving a marbled effect.
Dip each donut into the marbled vanilla glaze, then place back on the cooling rack and immediately sprinkle on unicorn sprinkles.
Allow to sit until glaze is set, about 30 minutes.
Prep Tips
- Oil – You will need approximately 4 cups of oil to fry the donuts, but the amount will differ based on the size of your dutch oven or whatever you are using to fry them. You want at least 3-4″ of depth in the pot. I recommend using peanut, canola or vegetable oil.
- Decorating – You can get creative with these donuts and use any combination of food coloring and sprinkles that you like! When adding the food coloring, start with a couple drops and swirl gently. Too much stirring will make the colors blur together and they may eventually turn brown-ish.
- Biscuit Dough – For this recipe you’ll want to use regular biscuits (vs. flaky). Using flaky biscuits may make the donuts separate while cooking.
- Storage – Keep your completed donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days.
