These Christmas Sprinkle Sugar Cookies have a festive sparkly coating and are super easy for kids to make!
Glittery Christmas Cookies Recipe
This recipe may look super simple (because – spoiler alert – it is) but I can’t begin to describe to you how much fun my kids had making it!
They loved getting to make the cookie dough, roll their cookie balls in sprinkles and see how pretty the finished cookies turned out.
Unlike a lot of Christmas cookie recipes, these cookies don’t require any special skills or techniques to decorate, which makes them very approachable and easy to make with kids of any age.
My kids loved how glittery and pretty their finished cookies were and were so proud to gift them to their teachers and grandparents.
These Christmas sugar cookies are soft and pillowy with a delicate sugar cookie flavor that is not too sweet, so the crunchy sprinkle coating doesn’t overwhelm them.
You can make this recipe using pre-made sugar cookie dough to make this recipe even easier to make with kids, although I personally think our homemade sugar cookie dough is worlds better than anything you can buy in a store!
You can use this method of making sprinkle cookies to make different themed cookies all year round!

Prep Tips:
- How to store Christmas Sprinkle Cookies: these cookies can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to a week.
- Can this cookie dough be frozen? The unbaked dough or the baked cookies can be frozen for up to a month. Some people may say that the cookie dough can be frozen for up to three months, but you will see a quality loss around the 2 month mark.
- What can I use instead of cream of tartar? The cream of tartar helps make these sugar cookies puffy and light. You can swap it out for baking powder for a similar effect, but they won’t be quite as pillowy soft without using cream of tartar.
- Why do I need to refrigerate the sugar cookie dough before baking? Refrigerating the dough for an hour prevents the dough from spreading too quickly during baking – which would result in a thin, crispy cookie. Refrigerating the dough allows it to maintain it’s pillowy, thick shape.
