This Christmas Sugar Cookie Sheet Cake is an easy and festive dessert that tastes just like sugar cookies! The cake is soft and buttery, with a from-scratch sugar cookie base and is topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting. The cake is decorated with red and green Christmas sprinkles, making it the perfect dessert for any holiday gathering!
Even though it is baked from scratch, this cake is so easy to make, and it’s a great holiday baking project to do with the kids. The cake base is made with simple ingredients like butter, sugar, flour, and eggs and baked in a sheet pan, so it’s ready to go in an hour or less.
The cream cheese icing is made with just 4 ingredients and is so smooth and creamy. It pairs perfectly with the subtly sweet sugar cookie cake!
This cake is great for last-minute holiday parties where you need to serve a crowd but don’t want to run out and buy a bunch of unique ingredients. You probably have many of these ingredients in the pantry already! Plus, this is such a tasty cake…it’s sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
Cake Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
For the cream cheese frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened at room temperature
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, to taste
- 3-4 cups powdered icing sugar, to personal preference
- 2 Tablespoons Christmas Sprinkles

- 9×13″ cake pan or baking dish
- Stand mixer or electric mixer and large bowl
Instructions
To Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9″ x 13″ casserole dish.
In a large bowl, beat together the butter and cream cheese until combined, and then beat in the white sugar for 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
Add the egg, vanilla and almond extracts and beat until just combined.
In a medium-sized bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and cream of tartar until fully combined.
Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and beat until fully incorporated.
Pour the batter into your prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
Frosting Directions
For the cream cheese frosting, combine the butter and sugar together in a large bowl until completely combined. Beat in the vanilla extract.
Start off by adding 2 cups of powdered icing sugar, beat well, then add additional as needed.
Use an offset spatula to spread the cream cheese frosting on the cake.
Add Christmas sprinkles for a festive touch.
Prep Tips
- Decorations – To decorate the cake, simply spread the frosting over the top and sprinkle it with your favorite Christmas sprinkles. You can also get creative and use other Christmas decorations, like crushed candy canes, mini gingerbread men, or any other holiday treats.
- Storage – Because the cake is topped with cream cheese frosting (made with dairy) it does need to be refrigerated. Keep in an airtight container, such as a baking pan with a lid, or cover the pan tightly with plastic wrap or foil. It should keep for 3-4 days in the fridge.
