Cream Cheese Syrup
What’s inside: an Old-fashioned Cream Cheese Syrup perfect for drizzling on pancakes, waffles or French toast. This homemade buttermilk syrup comes together in minutes and transforms everyday breakfast offerings into gourmet experiences.
Cream Cheese Syrup Recipe
Today’s cream cheese syrup is one of my favorite things to whip up for brunch.
It’s sweet, tangy and buttery – unlike any other breakfast syrup or condiment you’ve ever tried. It’s definitely decadent and over-the-top, so you might want to still have regular maple syrup on offer for those who don’t want a breakfast that doubles as dessert.
(And while it is traditionally just a breakfast syrup, I personally think it lends itself well to desserts like bread pudding, bundt cakes, etc.)
It comes together in minutes but also lasts for 2 weeks in the fridge, so you can prep ahead or whip it up as you make your other breakfast foods.
It would also be a cute homemade gift packaged alongside some homemade waffles – or even a waffle mix. This recipe makes 2 cups, so enough to enjoy with your family and gift a small mason jar.
I hope your family loves this decadent cream cheese syrup recipe as much as mine does!

How to Make Cream Cheese Syrup
To Prep: Gather your materials and ingredients. For best results, allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature before starting.
- Place the cream cheese in a large heatproof bowl and set aside.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and buttermilk; bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute.
- Pour the hot mixture over the cream cheese.
- Add baking soda and vanilla; beat until smooth.
Prep Tips
- Use a large saucepan as the mixture bubbles up quickly once boiling, and the baking soda later adds even more lift.
- Cut room-temperature cream cheese into chunks first to allow it to melt faster.
- Add baking soda carefully. It causes immediate foaming; pour slowly and mix with caution.
- Use full-fat cream cheese for a silky texture; low-fat may separate slightly.
